Terra Nova Laser 1 Man Tent
The Terra Nova Laser has lots of reviews and they all say the same thing apart from a few. It seems that this tent was upgraded a few years ago and now has titanium pegs (the previous ones easily fractured) and 2 vents so increased ventilation.
However nearly all the reviews I have seen have mentioned that there needs to be more pegs to increase the stability of the tent. It is quite strange because lots of people have said that during windy weather the tent felt unstable and they were convinced it was going to blow away and yet in the morning the tent was fine and there was no damage at all! There is just one pole with the terra nova laser and this tends to buckle in strong winds but I haven’t read anywhere that it has ever broken however, I wouldn’t like the thought of being inside it and see the pole bending! People have added extra pegs and put sprung guy ropes over the top to stop this happening.

Terra Nova Laser Best point
Definitely the best point is the weight of the tent. It is very light and ideal for backpacking. Also the vestibule is large and even with it shut there is enough room to cook inside. Apart from that I have to say that there aren’t any other obvious good points although no one buying the upgraded version has regretted buying it.
Terra Nova Laser Worst Point
The worst point is pretty unanimous – it really shouldn’t be classed as a 2 person tent. It is a luxury 1 man tent. With 2 people it is very cramped and each person will end up touching the sides and so get condensation on them. Therefore I have classed this under the 1 person tent category.
UPDATE: This tent is now classed as a 1 man competition tent!
Also I would include here that another negative is the lack of guy ropes on the sides of the flysheet which as I mentioned above results in bending of the pole during windy weather.
The groundsheet supplied is very thin and even Terra Nova suggest adding another footprint which is odd – why don’t they just upgrade the existing groundsheet? Anyway you can get a free footrpint when you purchase with some online retailers.
The condensation issue is now fine apart from people saying that during windy weather the flysheet tends to touch the inner tent and so the inner can get quite wet. I think this is again due to the lack of guy ropes on the sides of the flysheet as if there were some this would increase the overall tension of the tent.
The terra nova laser is a 3 season tent although some backpackers have happily used it during winter but I would not recommend that. Overall I would say that if you are wanting a very light tent and are happy to invest in some extra pegs and guyropes then the terra nova laser is a great tent.
