The Kelty Grand Mesa 4 has been updated this year (2011). It is a basic tent with no frills but just the essentials and therefore the price is affordable (at the time of writing $200). Suitable for up to 4 people and yet light enough to be classed as a backpacking tent!

If you are like me then you are probably wondering if the tent is in fact large enough for 4 people. Having looked at various reviews I wouldn’t recommend it for 4 adults. However there is plenty of room for 2 adults and 2 children or 3 adults. Most people seem to use this tent as a family tent.

It is very easy to set up and very quick too. Being free standing you can move it into the best potition after you’ve set it up.

There is a large vestibule and the entry into the tent is nice and big. Plenty of people commented on how great it was to walk in and out of the tent without having to bend down! Once inside it is spacious and airy.

The quality is very good with taped seams and the tent stands up well in wet, windy weather. One review I saw mentioned winds of 60mph! Lots of comments about how sturdy the tent is.

Negatives

As I mentioned above it is best suited for a family of 4 rather than 4 adults. I haven’t seen any consistant negatives about this tent. A couple of reviews have mentioned that the tent pegs are not that strong and suggest getting different ones.  Another mentioned that the tent floor is quite thin and therefore recommended getting a footprint.

Apart from that the Kelty Grand Mesa 4 is a tent that is well liked and recommended. If you want a lightweight tent that is easy to set up and is very sturdy AND a low price then this is the one to get!
