The Nemo Espri 3p is a 3 season tent that is according to Nemo suitable for up to 3 people. However, I would personally classify it as a 2 man tent because all the reviews I have seen have mentioned that it is too cramped for 3 people. With 2 people however, it is a very comfortable tent. It is free standing with one entrance and is set up using just 3 light weight aluminium poles and there is reflective guy ropes. Inside there are the usual mesh pockets and well designed removeable gear lofts which are great for storing stuff up out of the way.

The door can be arranged in 3 different ways depending on the weather conditions. Two of these arrangements create a vestibule area that can be used for extra storage space. The third arrangement is dependant on you purchasing a trekking pole if you don’t already have one and this is used to hold the vestibule up creating a nice high large area. You can see more details and a picture of it here.

Nemo Espri Best Points

The best point is the size and weight of the tent when packed up. It is extremely lightweight and therefore ideal for backpaking and hiking. It can be set up very quickly and easily as long as you remember that the black end of the pole fits the feet at the back of the tent or you’ll be wondering why everyone else is saying its easy to set up! Lots of campers have also mentioned how sturdy the tent is and how well it stands up to strong winds.

Nemo Espri Worst Points

Apart from being a 2 person tent rather than 3 there are no complaints except one! This complaint was made by just one person and others have not agreed with it but I shall mention it anyway. According to one camper they felt there was a flaw in the design of the rain fly. Apparently the fly doesn’t cover the rear tent wall and so leaves it exposed to the weather. That does not sound good to me so I did a little more digging.

Nemo Espri 3P

I don’t know what this camper did but I suspect they got the fly round the wrong way or perhaps the poles wrong. The nemo espri fly is designed to be a really quick and easy set up by using the Jake’s feet as the anchoring point. Now from studying lots of pictures of the tent set up with the fly it is easy to see that the fly doesn’t reach the ground but it certainly covers the mesh part of the inner tent. Therefore I can’t see why there would be a problem with water coming into the tent! I’ll leave that for you to figure out.

So overall the nemp espri is a great sturdy tent ideal for backpacking and everyone (except one camper!) recommends it!
