What are 3 season tents

When choosing a tent make sure that you get the right one suitable for the correct time of year you plan on going camping. The most common is the 3 season tent which is suitable for Summer, Spring and Autumn. If the weather is mild in Winter then some 3-season tents may still be up for the job or you might want to consider a 3+ season tent which will have stronger poles and can be used in mild winter conditions.

See below for helpful reviews on a variety of 3 season tents

Generally three season tents have been designed so that they tolerate most conditions apart from the extreme such as snow and really strong gales. Having said that you can certainly get some high winds in summer but they don’t tent to continue for days at a time.

Since this type of gear will be used most during summer they need to have really good ventilation and so most will have two doorways or entrances and these can be open or closed independently. There will be windows or mesh vent that you can open too for increased ventilation should you need it. The zippers should be covered by a protective flap to stop any leaks and there should of course be a rain fly to cover the tent to protect from sun damage.

I would always recommend a footprint to put your tent on when you are camping as this helps to increase the life of the tent by protecting your equipment from small stones and gravel.

3 season tents are available in a variety of sizes from a 1 person tent up to really large ones for 8 or 10 people and from different brands! Despite being so big these family tents can still be fairly lightweight as the frames or poles will be made from aluminium. The lightest tents are the backpacking ones and they are usually available in both 3 and 4 season as a lot of outdoor enthusiasts like camping in winter conditions!

Before you purchase any tent make sure you know what the product features are and that it is up for the job you need it for. If you plan on any winter camping then you must check out 4 season tents.
