Big Agnes Flying Diamond 6 and 8 Man Tent
The Big Agnes Flying Diamond 6 is a very large tent suitable for sleeping up to 6 people and still have lots of space for keeping gear in. There is a zippered partition wall to enable you to create 2 rooms – one would sleep 4 people and the other 2. (The Flying Diamond 8 is the same but bigger with each room sleeping 4 people).
There are quite a few reviews on this tent and they are all very positive like most other Big Agnes tent reviews I’ve looked at! Here are a few of the benefits:
* huge vestibule which goes over one entrance
* another exit at the other end of tent
* good quality seams to keep it waterproof
* heavy duty zippers
* large area is free standing (smaller area requires pegging)
* lots of mesh pockets around the inside of the tent
* reflective guys for nighttime visibility
* four crossing poles over the top gives firm stability to the tent
* easy to use carry case for packing away
Big Agnes Flying Diamond Best Points
Every review I have seen has said the same – this is a huge tent with lots and lots of space for sleeping and storing. People also commented on how stable the tent is even in high winds and is a tent they consider will last well. Air circulation is great and very little condensation is found inside.
Here is a youtube clip of the flying diamond 8 if you are interested. It is the same as the 6 person tent in terms of design.
On the Big Agnes webiste they class this tent as a 4 season tent able to be used in winter. However, my research suggests that it would be better classed as a 3+ season tent. It is certainly able to stand up to heavy storms but I am not sure about snow. When looking at the fabric details I noticed the canopy uses nylon mesh and there are lots of mesh panels that can not be sealed and this is not suitable for extreme cold weather. So my personal recommendation is that the flying diamond can be used in winter except during extreme
cold and snowy conditions.
Anything Bad About the Flying Diamond?
There aren’t any bad points with this tent. The only comments I’ve seem about improvements have been that the aluminium stakes are a little small for such a big tent but they do the job!

The Big Agnes Flying Diamond model can be bought as a 6 or 8 person tent and reviews for either version are very similar and campers always recommend them.

We go tent camping in Georgia over the winter time. Over this current winter, it has gotten to the upper 20 degree F with winds and some snow. I know you said this tent was okay to use for winters but not for extreme cold and snowy conditions. Considering that the winters I am experiencing are in Georgia versus Michigan, do you this this tent would be suited well for our winter camping in Georgia?
Well according to the Big Agnes website you are fine using it in snow. I am sure some campers do and have been fine. However camping in winter can be extremely dangerous and I tend to be cautious. Keeping out the cold and damp is critical and so any tent with mesh panels is for me a no go in winter weather. Maybe you could contact Big Agnes to hear first hand what they say for the conditions you expect to be camping in.
